Meet Brendan
Hello, I'm Brendan. I've spent over 30 years helping people navigate the often-complex landscape of addiction and emotional challenges. My approach to hypnotherapy is deeply personal and rooted in warmth. I believe that reaching out for help is an act of courage, not a sign of weakness. In our online sessions, I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where we can work together to calm your nervous system, quiet the cycle of cravings, and help you rediscover your inner strength from the comfort of your own home.
Ready to begin your journey?
It is common to feel like you have lost control when a habit like smoking, vaping, or drinking starts to take over. Please know that this is not a personal failure or a lack of willpower. These patterns are often just the brain's way of trying to cope with stress or emotional pain. In our sessions, I offer a warm and gentle space where you can let go of these cycles without any judgment. Hypnotherapy helps you move forward by calming the mind and body. Instead of feeling like you have to struggle or fight against your urges, we work together to settle your nervous system. This makes the cravings feel smaller and much easier to manage. We focus on finding peace and building a new way of living where you feel strong and happy again. Many people worry about life feeling empty without their habits, but hypnosis helps you feel whole and quiet inside. It is a very safe process that works beautifully alongside any other support you might be receiving. Healing takes time, so we usually meet for a few sessions to make sure you feel confident and steady on your journey to freedom. You are not alone, and you deserve to feel at ease in your own life.
Gently Breaking Dependency Through Clinical Hypnosis
Hypnosis functions by synchronizing your subconscious mind with your specific path to recovery, reaching past the barriers of personal willpower. Before beginning hypnotherapy, please speak with your doctor. This method works as a secondary emotional support tool to aid your progress, not as a replacement for clinical medical care.
Focus
Therapeutic Impact
Overwhelming Physical Cravings
By soothing the fight-or-flight response, hypnosis reduces the intensity of physical urges, helping you remain composed when triggers arise in daily life.
Unconscious Habitual Loops
Many addictions are reflexive. Hypnosis interrupts these automatic behaviors by strengthening your mental pause button and promoting mindful decision-making.
Anxiety Regarding Change
Reclaim your identity beyond the habit. Hypnosis builds a resilient inner foundation that helps you feel complete and satisfied without external substances. Disclaimer: Hypnotherapy is not a substitute for medical care; those with serious health conditions or withdrawal symptoms should seek medical support.
Questions & Answers
Navigating the complexities of addiction can be incredibly isolating, both for the individual and their support network. Often, these harmful cycles are rooted in attempts to soothe internal distress or past trauma. This section is designed to clarify how hypnotherapy provides a compassionate, evidence-based approach to relieving the underlying anxiety that fuels dependency. Whether you are exploring options for yourself or a loved one, you will find information here on how Brendan Hypnotherapy integrates with professional medical and clinical care to support a sustainable path toward peace.
Is it possible to resolve an addiction in just one appointment?
While many clients experience a profound shift in mindset and a sharp reduction in cravings after their first visit, recovery is generally an evolving journey rather than a single event. To truly address the subconscious triggers, cultivate new mental resilience, and establish a solid foundation for long-term sobriety, a dedicated sequence of 4 to 8 sessions is usually the most effective approach for lasting success.
Can I use hypnotherapy alongside my current medical treatment?
Hypnosis is a powerful ally that works harmoniously with traditional medical plans and psychological counseling to provide a more holistic recovery experience. We prioritize your safety and are fully prepared to coordinate with your existing healthcare team to ensure all aspects of your treatment are aligned. Can hypnosis address non-drug habits like gambling or digital overuse? Yes, absolutely. Behaviors like excessive gaming, social media scrolling, or compulsive shopping often serve as a subconscious escape from stress or emotional voids. Hypnotherapy helps you identify these hidden needs and retrains your nervous system to respond with healthier alternatives, making the change feel natural and secure. Will it help with minor habits like procrastination or snacking? Certainly. Even if a habit isn't a clinical addiction, feeling stuck in patterns like screen time or emotional eating can affect your quality of life. We work to uncover why your mind seeks these comforts and replace those automatic links with more intentional, empowering choices. Is hypnotherapy safe for everyone? Clinical hypnotherapy is a gentle, collaborative process and is safe for most people. However, there are a few situations where hypnosis is not appropriate, such as active psychosis, untreated epilepsy, active substance intoxication, severe cognitive impairment, or the first trimester of pregnancy. To keep you safe, I follow clear clinical guidelines. Understanding Habits vs. Addictions
The distinction between a common habit and a clinical addiction is found in the levels of control and consequence. While habits are routines we follow, addictions are compulsive dependencies that disrupt our daily lives and well-being.
Understanding Habits
A habit is a regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up. It is often a choice that has become automatic over time.
- Performed by choice
- Can be modified with willpower
- Generally does not cause severe life disruption
Understanding Addictions
An addiction is a chronic dysfunction of the brain system that involves reward, motivation, and memory. It is characterized by an inability to abstain.
- Compulsive engagement despite harm
- Feeling out of control
- Significant impact on health and relationships
Everyday Autonomy Quiz
Reflect on your current behaviors by considering these points. This checklist is a tool for self-awareness.
- ☐ Do I feel a loss of control over the behavior?
- ☐ Is this behavior negatively affecting my relationships?
- ☐ Have I tried to stop but found it difficult or impossible?
- ☐ Do I hide the behavior from friends or family?
- ☐ Is my physical or mental health declining as a result?
- ☐ Do I feel intense distress when I cannot engage in the behavior?
IMPORTANT NOTE: This insight sheet is for educational purposes only. If you believe you are dealing with a severe addiction or in a medical crisis, please consult with a healthcare professional or emergency service provider immediately.
A habit is a regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up. It’s something you do often, usually without thinking, because your brain has learned that pattern and repeats it automatically.
Habits are formed when your brain links a trigger (like a feeling, place or time of day) with a behavior and a sense of relief or reward. Over time, your mind chooses the familiar pattern because it feels easier and safer than trying something new, even when the habit is no longer serving you.
Many habits began as something helpful. At one time, they may have given you comfort, distraction or a sense of control during stress or uncertainty. Over time, your brain kept repeating the same response, even after your life and needs changed. What once protected you can slowly become unhelpful when it starts to affect your health, relationships or sense of freedom.”
